FIRST AID EDUCATION
All students have a right to an education in a safe and healthy environment. This includes being able to access basic first aid in the event they are hurt or become unwell. Compass places students in Ethiopia to empower the local community to be able to confidently provide first aid in a safe, effective manner through an education program targeted at school teachers and staff.
Utilising the unique knowledge and skills of medical students in the field of health care, the Compass First Aid Education Program provides targeted first aid education to teachers and support staff at the School of St. Yared. The education program was developed specifically with teachers, staff and students in mind to ensure it covers subjects which are likely to occur in a school environment, such as sports injuries, and more serious ailments such as fracture. The aim of the program is to ensure teachers and support staff are confident to be first responders to an incident, whilst also ensuring they are able to appropriately refer students to a healthcare professional when required. By providing such education, we hope to ensure that the children at the School of St. Yared can learn, play and enjoy themselves in an environment which is as safe as any other school.
